Property Expropriation in East Riyadh

Riyadh – May 16, 2025
Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Finance, Mohammed Al-Jadaan, has approved the expropriation of several private properties in eastern Riyadh. The decision includes three farms and surrounding land along the Janadriyah and Ramah roads.

The move aims to support projects of public interest, according to the official Umm Al-Qura newspaper.

What the Decision Covers

The expropriated areas include:

  • Buwaibiyat Farm
  • Land used for equestrian and camel events
  • Areas near the Janadriyah Festival grounds

This decision was made under the Real Estate Expropriation Law, issued by Royal Decree No. M/15, and falls within the legal powers of the General Authority for State Properties.

What Happens Next?

The General Authority for State Properties will:

  • Notify all relevant government bodies within 15 days
  • Appoint members to inventory and assessment committees
  • Hold meetings and prepare official reports
  • Oversee procedures according to the expropriation law

The Minister also directed that all legal and regulatory steps be completed quickly.

Why This Matters

These properties will be used for government-backed development projects that aim to serve the public good.
Although the exact project names weren’t shared, sources say the land will support cultural, recreational, and infrastructure efforts in the growing eastern region of Riyadh.
