The General Directorate of Passports confirmed that some residents will no longer need to pay companion fees for children born in Saudi Arabia.

Who Can Get the Exemption?

The government listed the groups that qualify for this benefit:

  • Children born inside Saudi Arabia to non-Saudi parents
  • Children of a Saudi mother and a non-Saudi father
  • Wives of Saudi citizens
  • Expats studying in Saudi Arabia
  • Military trainers working for official bodies
  • Diplomatic passport holders
  • Women living with children under 18

These groups face special social or humanitarian conditions, which is why the government aims to support them.

How to Apply Through Absher

If you qualify, you can apply online through the Absher platform. Here’s how:

  1. Log in to Absher
  2. Select “Exemption of Dependents”
  3. Upload required documents (residency ID, child’s birth certificate)
  4. Enter your sponsor or facility information
  5. Wait for review and approval

This online method helps speed up the process. You don’t need to visit offices in person. You can also track your request easily.

Paying Residency & Companion Fees

For those who are not exempt, fees still apply. The cost of renewing residency depends on your job or family status:
