Konya, Turkey – May 15, 2025
A magnitude 5.2 earthquake hit central Turkey on Thursday afternoon. The quake struck the Kulu district in Konya province at 3:46 PM local time. It occurred at a depth of 18.7 kilometers, according to Turkey’s AFAD agency.
The tremor was felt in Ankara and nearby areas. People in some towns briefly left buildings in fear.
No Damage or Injuries
Officials said no injuries or major damage have been reported.
Konya’s governor, İbrahim Akın, said emergency teams were sent to the site.
“So far, things look stable,” he told Anadolu Agency.
Kulu’s mayor confirmed the shaking caused concern but no panic.
Minor cracks were seen in mosque minarets in Kırkkuyu neighborhood.
Turkey on Alert
Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said there is “no current threat.”
Emergency services remain on standby.
Turkey often experiences earthquakes due to its active fault lines. In 2023, two deadly quakes killed over 50,000 people in the south.
Today’s quake was moderate, but it reminded citizens of the region’s seismic risk.
